The Deputy Clerk is a person appointed to act on behalf of the Circuit Clerk as her substitute, or agent, and is empowered to perform certain duties in the Circuit Clerk’s name. Jill Smitherman was appointed Deputy Clerk by Mary Harris in August, 2012.

In addition to handling the duties of the circuit clerk in her absence, Ms. Smitherman is the Criminal Court Supervisor. Ms. Smitherman has been employed by the circuit clerk’s office since July, 1988.
