This website provides information for victims of domestic violence or abuse to assist them in understanding the Protection From Abuse Act, the remedies provided by it and the procedure for securing a court order for protection. It also includes limitations of the justice system in providing protection along with actions that victims of domestic violence or abuse must take to ensure their safety.

The Alabama State Victim Notification Service (AlaVINE) is a service through which victims of crime can use the telephone or Internet to search for information regarding their offender’s custody status and register to receive telephone and e-mail notification when the offender’s custody status changes. This service is brought to you by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office, the Alabama Attorney General’s Office and the Alabama Criminal Justice Information Center.
